Congregational Council
The primary purpose of the KLC Congregation Council is to provide leadership and guidance for the church’s mission and ministry, including the planning, implementation, and evaluation of its activities. The Council serves as the governing body, overseeing various aspects of the church’s life and ensuring alignment with its vision and goals.
At Kihei Lutheran Church, the Council meets on the third Tuesday of every month. Membership consists of up to 12 congregation members who are elected annually. Council members attend monthly meetings and also serve as liaisons or committee members for one or more KLC committees, as outlined in the KLC Constitution.

Spiritual Growth and Christian Education Committee
The Spiritual Growth and Christian Education Committee exists to guide and support the faith journeys of individuals of all ages within the congregation. Its purpose is to nurture spiritual growth by providing intentional programs, resources, and opportunities for spiritual formation, including Christian education, Bible study, and discipleship. The committee seeks to foster growth in grace and knowledge of the Lord, deepen faith, encourage lives of service and discipleship, and strengthen relationships with God and with others.
Subgroups of the Spiritual Growth and Christian Education Committee include the Prayer Team, Keiki (Children’s) Sunday School Program, Sunday Morning Adult Education Classes, Monday Faith Journey Discussion Group, Sunday Morning Youth Confirmation Classes, New Member Classes, Keiki First Bible Class, Daily Personal Devotions, Living Lutheran newsletter link and discussion opportunities, Church Library, and Book Discussion group.

Finance
The Finance Committee supports the congregation’s mission by overseeing its financial health and stewardship. It prepares and monitors the annual budget, reviews financial reports, ensures responsible use of funds, and advises church leadership on financial planning and policies. Through faithful stewardship, the committee helps align the church’s financial resources with its ministry and mission priorities. The Financial Secretary and the Treasurer shall be members of this committee.
Subcommittees and subgroups of the Finance Committee include the Stewardship Task Force and the Endowments Fund Team.

Worship Committee
Meeting day and time: Second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom.
Purpose: Appointed by the Congregation Council, the Worship Committee supports the pastor by overseeing and coordinating the worship life of the congregation, arranging for volunteers to assist in worship, and ensuring a welcoming worship environment. The committee assists with weekly worship liturgies, midweek Advent and Lenten services, and all religious festivals.
You can be involved by volunteering to greet people as they arrive for church, by playing an instrument or singing in the choir, by bringing flowers for the altar, by joining our Hula group of dancers, by setting the communion table, or by reading Scripture.

Property Committee
The Property Committee of an ELCA congregation is responsible for the care, maintenance, and stewardship of the church’s buildings, grounds, and physical assets. Its purpose is to ensure that church property is safe, functional, welcoming, and well maintained, so it supports the congregation’s mission and ministry. The committee oversees repairs, improvements, long-term planning, and compliance with safety and insurance requirements, acting as faithful stewards of the resources entrusted to the congregation. Congregation properties include the parsonage located at 2218 Auina Place, Kihei, HI, and the Sanctuary, office and education building, other facilities, and open spaces located at 220 Moi Place, Kihei, HI.

Community Assistance/Outreach
The Community Outreach Committee supports the church’s mission by building relationships beyond the congregation and responding to local needs. It encourages service, advocacy, and partnerships that reflect Christ’s love, connecting the church with the wider community through compassion, hospitality, and justice-oriented ministries.
Examples of ministries that KLC actively supports include monthly PBJ sandwich donations and quarterly snack and/or hygiene bag donations to A Cup of Cold Water (ACCW), Feed My Sheep (FMS), and Maui Rescue Mission (MRM), as well as support for the Keolahou Food Pantry (KFP) and the Kihei Youth Center (KYC). The Outreach Committee also supports the ELCA Global Barnyard and participates in the ELCA’s annual “God’s Work. Our Hands.” event.

Fellowship Committee
The Fellowship Committee fosters a welcoming, inclusive church community by creating meaningful opportunities for connection, mutual support, and fellowship that embody Christ’s love for members and guests alike. Through hospitality, social events, and acts of care, the committee encourages active participation in congregational life and ensures everyone feels valued, welcomed, and supported. “Fellowship” goes beyond casual socializing; it represents a deep, active, and communal sharing of spiritual, social, and material life rooted in a shared faith in God and Christ.
Subgroups of the Fellowship Committee include Sunday Refreshments/Hospitality Team, the Care Cards Ministry, Prayer Shawl Hui, Visitor Connection Team, and Mondays at Manoli’s Pizza in Wailea.

Administrative
The Administrative Committee exists to support the mission and ministry of the church by overseeing its day-to-day administrative and operational needs. The committee helps ensure responsible stewardship of resources by providing coordination, organization, and oversight of areas such as facilities, policies, personnel support, and internal procedures, enabling the congregation and its leaders to focus on worship, discipleship, and service.
