Description

In this Third Sunday of Easter homily, Pastor Ron unpacks the Road to Emmaus story from Luke 24, placing it in context across all four gospels and showing where it fits in the resurrection timeline—between the women at the tomb and Jesus' evening appearance to the disciples.

Drawing from Acts, 1 Peter, and Luke, Pastor Ron explores six themes woven through the readings: God's faithfulness, repentance, the Holy Spirit, community, transformation, and hospitality. He challenges us to move beyond "repent and be baptized" as a one-time event and instead embrace a lifelong shift from a worldly focus to a kingdom focus—caring for the marginalized, being the presence of God in the world, and seeing life as God sees it.

The homily reminds us that we live with one foot in the kingdom and one foot in the world—and invites us to ask which foot we lean on most. Just as the disciples' eyes were opened when Jesus broke bread with them, our eyes can be opened every Sunday at the table.

Quote of the Week:
"It is Easter, after all, when our risen Lord reminds us that we are called to live into reality that life can change, that hope has wings, that love is ascendant, and that we don't have to live in fear behind locked doors." — Greg Garrett
