Description
In this homily, Pastor Lesley challenges us to move from being spectators to active participants in God's mission. Starting with a humorous twist on the hymn "Here I Am, Lord" (send the other guy!), she reminds us that following Jesus means we can't just stay comfortable in our recliners.
Looking at Jesus' instructions to his disciples in Matthew, Pastor Lesley notes that Jesus wasn't driven by marketing plans or flashy church programs, but by deep compassion for those pushed to the margins. Through two personal stories—helping a tired stranger find her car at a Kansas hospital, and learning a humbling lesson from a man named Sam at a Chicago food pantry who simply needed a can opener—she shows how everyday availability can change lives.
As the community looks ahead, Pastor Lesley invites everyone to keep their eyes open, listen to the needs around them, and trust the Holy Spirit to guide their everyday encounters with neighbors.
