Music Program
KLC has a strong music department and would like to invite you to come listen or become involved.
The choir sings once a month at worship and rehearses each Sunday after church from the end of August through the end of April. Anyone 7th grade and older is welcome to join. The choir also does a Christmas Cantata, a Witness Concert at the Mall in December, and has started going to Kalama Heights about 2 times a year to sing for our seniors. Our singing is in honor and glory to our Lord. Contact Kathy Krueger for more details.

Hand Chime Choir
Chimes is a beautiful
Early in 2003, Bob Stensrud, a member of Kihei Lutheran Church Choir and barbershop aficionado, had a barbershop arrangement of “Were You There” that he wanted to share with the congregation, and enlisted three willing KLC choral musicians to help. With Oscar Swenson singing bass, Keli Nelson on tenor, and Mike Beyersdorf on the baritone part, following Bob’s lead, the group practiced weekly at the Swenson’s condominium. On Good Friday, April 9, 2003, the group presented this favorite hymn with some wonderful barbershop harmonies to an appreciative congregation.
Amid popular acclaim, the group decided to stay together, but needed to replace Oscar who lived most of the year in Kalispell, Montana. Pastor Dave Krueger agreed to take on the bass part, and for the ensuing five years the men continued to expand their repertory and delight the congregation with both barbershop and gospel style music. Our dear friend Oscar Swenson was and is content to listen to the group he had helped found, during his visits. The group settled on an alpha-numeric spelling of the word “forgiven” to accentuate the four-part nature of their music.
In the autumn of 2008, Bob Stensrud’s health kept him from participating, so Zel Terluin stepped in to sing the melodic part, called the “lead” in barbershop, and 4-Given continues to be a contributor to the worship life of Kihei Lutheran Church. The four men are fast friends, meeting every Thursday afternoon in Dave’s office to practice and offer praise to God in this unique style of music.
